One of a Kind Art to Wear
Ellen Mahnken is an artist residing in the Catskill Mountains of New York. An artist and designer with over forty years of experience, she works in many mediums: ink, paint, print, pastel, glass, metal, bead weaving, fiber, computer graphics, logo and prototype development. She loves the combination of honing skills and techniques and combining new materials, mediums, and found items into two and three dimensional works.
Ellen's education has been always self directed. She has an Associate's Degree from Columbia Greene Community College, and has also studied at C.W. Post College in Long Island, the Long Island and New York Society of Scribes, the Studio at the Corning Museum of Glass, and the Woodstock School of Art under master painters Hong Nian Zhang and Lois Woolley. She has also studied with master artists Barbara and F.E. Greene, and with author, fiber and jewelry artist, Carol Cypher. She credits artist Ulla Darni for her glass painting education, having painted thousands of her multiple original line of glass chandeliers for more than twelve years.
Ellen Mahnken has been a teacher, member, and on the board of several community art groups. She was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Greene County Council on the Arts in 1994 and with the exception of her own, has designed, hand calligraphed and illuminated each of the awards for more than two decades. Most of her work is done on a commission basis and can be found in many private, corporate, and international collections.
Ember Moon Studios is the new home base for Ellen's collective artwork endeavors.
